Story
Hi, I’m Margaret, I’m 81, and on Saturday 21st July I’m jumping 15,000 feet out of a plane to raise money for my local Contact the Elderly group in Bristol.
One Sunday we were brainstorming ways to make more money to pay for our tea party venues, and when someone suggested skydiving I jumped at the chance. I’ve always loved flying, but never thought I would have a chance to do this! My family think I’ve mad but I’m so excited!
The work that Contact the Elderly do is so important as
there’s a lot of lonely and socially isolated people out there. Going to the tea parties has meant I’ve got to meet people from all different backgrounds and share our experiences. I’ve made so many friends and everyone is so kind.
Please donate whatever you can. Thank you so much!
Margaret
What do Contact the Elderly do?
Half of all people aged 75 and over live alone, and 1 in 10
people aged 65 or over say they are always, or often feel lonely – that’s just over a million people. Contact the Elderly are committed to alleviating the negative impacts of loneliness in people over the age of 75 through tea party groups.
Supported by a network of volunteers, Contact the Elderly organises free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older
people aged 75 and over, who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month, for many older guests the tea party trip may well be their only social outing in the whole month. So you can be safe in the knowledge that your donation will make a very tangible difference to isolated older people in your community.
Fundraising is vital to our service and without people like you supporting us we would be unable to support older people in combatting loneliness and isolation amongst this particular group.
