Story
Jump for Hazel
On December 23rd 2022, Mike and I put our Out of
Offices on ready for our Christmas break from work. At around the same time, my
mother in law, Hazel was being cut out of her car by the fire brigade following
an RTA as she had a stroke while driving.
Hazel sustained minimal injuries due to the accident itself
but the injuries from her stroke were significant and she was in a 14 day
critical risk zone of having another stroke. We have made it past the 14 days
successfully and Hazel is having daily physio treatment and has now started with
small amounts of pureed food and thickened water but still has very restricted
mobility and is unable to stand. She has an incredibly long road to recovery
and her team of doctors are still unable to say what level of recovery she will
have. She is a “tough northern lass” with so much drive that we are remaining
positive that she will be able to have a good quality of life moving forward.
Seeing Hazel go through this ordeal has been so hard to see
and what makes it harder is there is absolutely nothing you can do to help.
So… I have made the decision that I need to try and do something
to help and have decided to do a solo sky dive to raise money for the Stroke
Association.
My good friend Trevor Smith is doing a sky dive on April 22nd
2023 to raise money for The Three Pillars charity and has inspired me to join
him in throwing ourselves out of a “perfectly serviceable aeroplane at
13,000ft!”
Given our current family circumstances, I have chosen the
Stroke Association as my charity as they are there to help families in a
similar situation to our own. They provide specialist support, fund critical
research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best
care and support to rebuild their lives.
I understand that money is a struggle for a lot of people at
the moment but I would be so grateful for any donation, however big or small to
go towards helping this charity.
Thanks.
