English Channel Solo Swim · 22 July 2019

For at least 1.9 million children in the UK, learning to talk and understand words feels like an impossible hurdle. Your support can help give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind, waiting to be understood.

Story

In Summer 2019, I will be swimming the English Channel solo to raise funds for I CAN, the children's communication charity. I CAN help children with speech, language and communication needs.

The Channel is 22 miles across and one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. This challenge will involve swimming continuously and battling fatigue, hypothermia, sea sickness and jellyfish stings, all for this worthwhile cause. Due to the Channel Swim rules, I'll be doing all of this whilst wearing only a swimming costume, swim hat and goggles!

I CAN is charity that is close to my heart. I work as a Speech and Language Therapist in schools in Sutton and my job involves providing therapy and support to children with speech, language and communication needs.

I believe that communication is crucial for everyone. I support I CAN's mission in helping children to access education, and helping children to communicate better and giving children a voice. I CAN help to ensure that no child is left out because of a difficulty speaking or understanding. You can read more about their fantastic work here: https://www.ican.org.uk/

Please dig deep and give as much as you can to this worthwhile cause! It really does help children's lives.

Thank you so much for your support.
