Story
On the 8th of September 2015, I went to the doctors to have a lump checked that I had found in my left breast 1 week previously. After the examination, I was sent for a biopsy on the 22nd which revealed that I had a malignant lump. After finding this out, I was then booked in to have the lump removed on Tuesday 6th October, along with 5 lymph-nodes for further testing. My family and I then had to endure a 2 week wait for the results. When they (finally) came through, it was confirmed that I had a malignant ductal carcinoma, Stage III with HER2 positive proteins. The clear margin that they had taken around the lump was fortunately clear, along with the cells in all 5 lymph-nodes. Although, currently, I am technically considered to be 'Cancer free' the type of cancer is of such an aggressive and invasive form that I am about to undergo 4 months of chemotherapy, 1 month of radiation therapy and a further 12+ months of HER2 positive drug therapy. The silver lining of this is that I also suffer from Type 1 diabetes and the 43 years in which I have had it means that I have had sufficient experience in injecting myself daily so, I will be able to administer my own HER2 positive drugs. #winning
I AM going to kick this cancer in the dick. This cancer did not realise who it was up against when it decided to take me on. I am taking control of this and refuse to be beaten. Help me in doing this, by sponsoring me in my next 'fingers-up' at cancer. On Saturday 28th of November, I will be shaving my head because I am taking control and will not let this cancer define who I am. #fightlikeagirl
The love and support that I have had from friends and family has been overwhelming and I would just like to thank you all.
