Story
It never ceases to amaze me how spectacularly short the memory can be when you are about to volunteer yourself to do something very stupid. Suffice it to say that I am not a London Marathon virgin and I received a sharp reminder of that when I recently dug out my old fundraising material from 2001, including the ‘post run’ update. It was all fairly upbeat to begin with - the account of being overtaken by a 17 stone hippo at 20 miles was vaguely amusing, as was the ‘blissful blister break’ when my feet took an all expenses paid holiday (of 20 seconds) in the Ambulance Man’s Vaseline Pot. It wasn’t until I read the bit about parting company with my toenails (which took a unanimous decision to abdicate our 33 year and rather beautiful relationship), that the full realisation of what was to come hit me and true panic began to set in!
Although somewhat scared at the prospect of running the ‘London’ again, I have to conclude that I am not entirely potty. The somewhat punishing training schedule has helped the delusion that I am fighting off the encroaching creakiness of middle age. It also gave a good opportunity to spend lots of time with my fab friend and training partner Deb (thanks for twisting my arm Spud! ). However, the prospect of raising the much needed funds to finish the work to our local primary school in Sibford Gower is the real incentive. The school is a fantastic resource for many local children so, a huge plea to all you out there to make a pledge and support the marathon effort! General expressions of sympathy will also be gratefully accepted….
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sibford Gower Educational Primary School Parent Teacher Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
