Story
We are walking a half marathon on September 3rd in Wiltshire around the stone circle of Stonehenge. We are four tennis friends who are more used to wielding tennis racquets than wearing walking boots but we want to take on the challenge surrounded by people who are trekking for loved ones, and raise money so together we can find a cure.
Living with memory loss is a tragedy. I watched my nan go through it when I was a teenager and my beloved godparents have also suffered with it. Anything that we can do to offer support for those suffering and for their loved ones is worth walking for.
When my annoying tumour decided to go rogue in December 2020 one of the side effects was mental confusion and memory loss and I was terrified that I was developing early onset Alzheimer’s. Thankfully the brilliant NHS got my calcium levels back under control and my brain was restored to normal function but the fear and anxiety of that experience didn’t leave me. So when our friend Cat suggested a memory walk together I jumped (not very high because I’m not very fit!) at the chance.
This will be the last physical challenge I will do before going in for my operation in mid September. I am keeping fingers and toes crossed that I will emerge from that operation cancer free and still able to take on tennis, open water slow swims and walking with family and friends (and Buster obviously) but the future feels a little unknown until then. So this Memory Walk counts as one of my ‘living my best life’ experiences which will make me feel happy and fulfilled and hopefully also help others.
If you feel able to donate that would be amazing. We would be so grateful. And if you can cheer us on momentarily on September 3rd that will make each step easier. Your friendship, support and best wishes over the years and especially over the last 18 months have meant the world to me. Thank you.
