Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Event takes place Saturday 30th March - Sunday 31st March and is a total of 125 miles, and 77 locks. Simon and I hope to complete this in under 24 hours. We have been training hard for the last year - although seriously for the last 4 months, covering over 450 miles, both in the day and night.
I am taking part in this challenge in memory of Hilary Thomas who was my first canoeing partner when I started paddling at Banbury & District Canoe Club 10 years ago. Sadly Hilary passed away in January 2009. We had always said that one day we would have a go at the DW and did many of the warm up races before she became ill - I often think about Hilary when we are paddling.
Unfortunately on 1st March 2013, my father was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. As you can imagine, this came as a great shock to us all - I have tried to concentrate on my training since then and have decided to raise money for the Lawrence Home Nursing Team. Dad is a founder trustee member of the Lawrence Home Nursing Team based in Chipping Norton and covering the villages around the area. Obviously I will be aiming to complete the event for Dad too. Simon and I can guarantee that however much your donation is, we will put as much effort as we can to complete this within the 24 hours. We are very grateful for any sponsors that we receive. For example, £2 donation from you, with gift aid, would equal £2.50 for Lawrence Home Nursing!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please consider donating to this worthwhile cause.
