FUNDRAISING SPECIFICALLY FOR THE DUMFRIES ROYAL INFIRMARY ALEXANDRA UNIT AND LOCAL GALLOWAY MACMILLAN SERVICE
In Julie's memory I wish, in some small way, to show gratitude to the best of the health service that provided such incredible professional and compassionate care in her final months, making a huge difference to the quality of her life at this time.
I decided a year ago to take on a fund raising challenge that would require enough effort to do Julie and the care she received some sort of justice. A friend suggested cycling from Land's End to John O' Groats and so I got on my bike for the first time in 20 years. I managed two whole miles before hitting the pain barrier and walking like John Wayne for a week before I could get back on the saddle. I had found a big enough challenge! Through not giving up and dedicated training I have, at time of writing, lost 8 1/2 stone and am doing regular (through the Scottish winter) 50 - 60 mile rides. The End-to-End though will be 1000 miles, an average of around 80 miles every day for 13 days without a rest, starting each day still knackered from the last, a challenge indeed - however I am naively optimistic and determined to succeed!
All I ask of you is two things. Firstly to put your hand in your pocket and I thank you sincerely for your generosity and secondly to raise a glass to Julie's memory.
