Julie and Alli's Redcar Half Marathon
Fundraising for Fanconi Hope
Fundraising for Fanconi Hope
On the 30th September myself and
friend Alli Shackleton will be taking on the Redcar Half Marathon. As many of you may know in 2013 my daughter
Maddie, then age 9, was diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia, a very rare genetic blood
disorder, resulting in bone marrow failure. In 2015 Maddie underwent her first transplant which
unfortunately she rejected and underwent a second transplant 3 months later
which thankfully worked but this was followed by many complications. Maddie spent over 9 months in isolation at
the RVI Hospital, Newcastle which was followed by a lengthy recovery. This had a devastating effect on all the
family.
Fanconi Hope has set a target to raise £100k for
ground-breaking Proton Beam Therapy research which is aimed at improving the future
treatment for those affected by Fanconi Anaemia.
Any donation would be most gratefully received and
will make a huge impact on this small charity who have now been able to set
their sights much higher than previously, in aiming to improve the lives of
those affected by Fanconi Anaemia and ultimately help find a cure.
Your donation really is much appreciated.
