Story
Sadly 38 years ago I lost my Wonderful Father to cancer. He was a very hard working gentleman who raised 4 children, he was my hero and I miss him every day. He was diagnosed with bone cancer and given up to 2 years to live it was suggested he was to be put into plaster casts to help with his crumbling bones however after 10 cruel suffering weeks his ribs collapsed and pierced his lungs. Sadly 38 years ago there wasn’t as much support around as there is today the fantastic support that Macmillan offers the whole family. Such as my best friend Christine who 3 years ago was diagnosed with breast cancer she received amazing support from Macmillan as did I, as a friend I was offered a fantastic level of support from this amazing charity. Christine is now in remission and has 2 clear years she took on the fight of cancer and is doing very well. However there are many more people out there that need the same support as we have had in the past and this new Macmillan Cancer Centre at The Chesterfield Royal is much needed in our area and will take away lots or unnecessary travel stress and strain many patients have to suffer. This is the reason for my taking part in this great event. In memory of my wonderful father and for many other people like my friend Christine.
