Story
I'm fundraising for SameYou as part of the Virtual Inca Challenge and I'm hoping to raise £500 to support brain injury recovery. But I need your help to achieve this. I'll be walking (maybe with a bit of jogging) 26 miles - the length of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu over September!
I suffered a spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage in May this year and had surgery to seal two bleeding brain aneurysms, so this challenge really matters to me. Firstly because it's part of my own recovery. The old me would have ran this, but I'm going to walk it over the next few weeks as part of building back to my new normal. Secondly, because I want to raise funds to help other people like me. The road to recovery is such a long and bumpy one and I know people need all the support they can get. Thirdly, because reading Emilia Clarke's story of her own experience and recovery helped me immeasurably. I want to help her spread that message, and maybe my story might help others too.
For background, 1 in 3 people will have an Acquired Brain Injury at some point in their lives but this is hardly ever talked about. SameYou want to change this. They are working to break the silence around brain injury and help give people the best possible chance of recovery after leaving hospital. Any donation would help and would be really appreciated.
