Hello you. I'm a Receptionist at Hillarys Blinds and through our works Charity Committee, we currently support Hayward House at the Nottingham City Hospital. 

You know, several people have told me that I'm "brave" for having my hair shaved off and, while I'll confess it is taking a certain amount of courage, I'm not brave.

Everyone who has to walk through the doors of Hayward House is brave; the staff, the patients and their families.

Imagine going to work every day knowing that someone is going to die. That you'll have to comfort grieving families and loved ones. To be around such sorrow every working day and still manage to maintain an air of peace and calm and comfort. Nah.....I'm not brave.

Imagine going in as a patient, knowing that it's the last place you'll ever be. That you'll never leave again with your loved ones. That you'll have to say goodbye to everyone that you love and care about. That's brave.

And the families. Taking a beloved member of your family to Hayward House knowing that very soon, you'll have to leave without them. That, my friends, is brave.

Hayward House is such a beautiful, peaceful place. I don't know how they do it, but everyone who works there manages to make it a lovely place to be, for both patients and families.

I'm not brave. I'm just doing something silly that might entertain people for a moment in time and I sincerely hope it will raise some money for a truly deserving place.

So please, instead of telling me I'm brave....gimme a fiver! Hahaha ;-)
