Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My beautiful niece, Elsie Palmer Dodkin was born on the 1/11/11. She was born with a congenital heart condition which was potentially life threatening.
I would like to thank all of the fantastic people, doctors, nurses, health care assistants + many more at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London for their excellent work and care they have given her over the past 3 months, and for the journey she has ahead of her.
In running the Brighton Marathon on 15th April 2012 I would like to raise as much money as possible so they can continue the care they have shown not only to Elsie, but to all the other babies, children and adults who are born with life threatening heart conditions.
I would also like to add how brave my brother Gary and his wife Danielle have been since Elsie arrived! There is truly nothing worse than seeing your tiny baby so poorly and being unable to do anything to take the pain away. I will always make sure young Elsie knows how fantastic her parents are and when she reaches her teenage years and turns out like Auntie Ju i'll give her a clip round the ear :) The hospital have been great to them too, providing them with accomodation so they can be with Elsie 24 hrs a day and always ensuring they know exactly where they are at with Elsie's care.
Elsie has now just come out of ICU following her 2nd HUGE operation which i'm happy to say went very well and the surgeons are very pleased with her. A few teething problems but on the whole a success. These doctors are amazing, I for one cannot imagine how hard it must be for them operating on someone so small, knowing their life is in their hands!
With this paediatric unit is in danger of closing down so we need to raise awareness and cash so it can be kept open and they can carry on the good work.
Updates on her progress to follow!
