Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November 2016, my elder brother and best friend was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer, which had manifested itself in the pancreas and unfortunately spread to his liver. He suffers from an hereditary condition known as MYH-Associated Polyposis (MAP) which is a genetic predisposition to form polyps in the gastrointestinal tract which can become cancerous.

Despite recent advances in knowledge of the disease and close monitoring of his condition, doctors are unable to accurately predict its progression. As such, MAP carries an increased risk of developing malignant tumours.

My eldest brother Nick also suffered from the same condition and at 17 years old died suddenly from stomach cancer in 2002.

Despite this ticking time-bomb and the fact that he has undergone several prophylactic surgical operations to remove his colon, duodenum and gall bladder, he has always remained up-beat and positive about life. Every morning he gets up singing.

He has been receiving treatment at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, to keep the disease at bay, in the hope that advances will be made in its control and I can continue to have my wonderful brother around for as long as possible.

Those of you who know him will be well aware that he is kind, very funny, how he makes any party one to remember and how his smile can light up even the dimmest room!

In typical form he has taken the recent news and his treatment head-on. I, however, feel so powerless. So I have decided to support my brother by cutting off all my hair; which I have been growing, much to the chagrin of my school, for over 2 years.

I’m making this sacrifice not only to show him my solidarity but also to raise as much money as possible to help with the fight against this awful disease.

All donations will go to The Christie Hospital and the hair will be used by the Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children suffering hair loss as a consequence of treatment.

Thank you, so much, in advance  Jack Xx
