Story
Hello, thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am very proud to be the CEO of the charity Action for Children. Please read on to learn why I need your help.
Thursday 21st March is my 50th birthday. I have had fortunate life; I always had a safe and stable home as a child. But far too many children don't. At Action for Children we see every day the devastating impact on children of insecure home environments, the poverty faced by far too many families and the long term negative impact on children's lives when their family or home setting is vulnerable. Shockingly 90 children enter the care system every day in England alone. 45% of children entering the care system have a mental health condition. Those who are in care as children are five times more likely to commit suicide in later life. 41% of care leavers are not in education, employment or training.
Action for Children works across the UK supporting over 300,000 children, young people and their families every year. We strive to support them to stay together and when they cant we help those children to have a safe and stable place to call home for the future and the support and opportunity to thrive.
So on my 50th birthday I will be sleeping out on the street near St Pauls Cathedral in London to do my bit to raise much needed funds to help us continue to provide our crucial work. I imagine its going to be cold, possibly wet and certainly very uncomfortable. I am fortunate it will only be for one night that I have to do it. Many are not so fortunate.
