Story
On 29th September, I'll be doing the Leamington Memory Walk in memory of my mum, Rosemary Needham.
Four years ago she was diagnosed with dementia. Finding this out was devastating for her and those of us who loved her. She slowly began to lose her language and understanding. She was scared and confused. Normal life became increasingly hard for her. So we moved her into a care home early last year. She hated losing her freedom and asked to go home whenever I saw her (one of the few things she could remember how to say). Watching her deteriorate was heartbreaking. In March 2018 she fell and broke her hip. She died a few weeks later.
I'm doing the Memory Walk to remember my mum and to support everyone affected by dementia. I'd love to raise some cash for the Alzheimer's Society and would be amazingly grateful if you could sponsor me.
Whilst this walk won't be too hard physically difficult for me, it will be very emotional, as it will remind me of my mum's struggle and how much we miss her. I'll be surrounded by others - each with their own story of lives affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
Thank you!
