Story
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and Anthony Nolan are inviting people to take part in their fundraising event, Walking Together, by holding sponsored walks through September.
On Saturday 25th September, we will be walking 20 miles, starting from the North Roe Hall and finishing at the Muckle Roe Hall, via Ollaberry and Sullom. It is 20 years since we lost our Dad to Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer, and during his treatment he received a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant through Anthony Nolan. We would like to show our thanks for the efforts they went to to help him, as well as so many others. Any donations, big or peerie, will be hugely appreciated.
We are both on the stem cell donor register, and would encourage anybody aged 16-30 to consider joining, too.
For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. It costs £40 to add each new potential donor to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register, and every new person on the register means another chance for someone to find their lifesaving match. By donating to our page, you will be helping them continue their vital work in finding potentially life-saving stem cell donors for people with blood cancer, giving more people the chance of a future. Thank you.
