Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm doing the London to Brighton with the 'Windsor Wheelers', that's our gang of middle aged lycra fanatics who think the best hangover cure is getting out into the Berkshire countryside at 7 in the morning. (Well it might not be the best hangover cure, but it certainly gets you out of doing breakfast with the kids...)
Anyway, the British Heart Foundation run the London to Brighton. It's an iconic ride, especially the famous denouement, Ditchling Beacon, which is the final punishing climb before Brighton.
I've always held a candle burning for the British Heart Foundation. My sister owes her life to great cardiologists: She was born with a whole in her heart and a blocked aorta, which meant she got no blood below her lungs. At six weeks, surgeons performed an operation to sever her aorta, remove the block and rejoin it, all in under 45 seconds, which they did. Thirteen years later she needed another op to shave down the muscle wall of the left ventricle.
Fabrice Muamba showed the world that heart disease is pretty indiscriminate - it can strike non-smokers, athletes, even the most laid back of us (I'm in only one of those camps I think). I reckoned it was about time I recognised the work of the BHF in fighting heart disease, so if you could spare a few bob, then I'd be very grateful - you know it's going to a good cause.
