Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Cancer Research UK has made a fantastic contribution to our knowledge and treatment of cancer. One in three of us will be affected by cancer.
I have spent over 40 years in medicine and 27 years as a general practitioner at Hamstreet Surgery in rural Kent and have cared for many patients with cancer. I have been greatly impressed by their courage and fortitude. My own family and friends have been affected by cancer; so cancer research is close to my heart.
On May 2nd I started my walk from Hamstreet to Rye, then walked along the coast, over the Fire Hills to Hastings and Eastbourne. From there, I took the South Downs Way to Winchester and then the Clarendon Way to Salisbury. Then along the River Avon Valley Path, through part of the New Forest to Bournemouth and Sandbanks, Poole. Thereafter, I have been following the South West Coast Path. On Wednesday June 10th, after watching basking sharks from a cliff top near Porthcurno, I arrived at Land's End in beautiful afternoon sunshine.
Following this adventure and ordeal, I returned home and walked west to east thus completing my crossing of the South of England. Next spring, I plan to do the Wainwright walk from St Bee's to Robin Hood Bay across the north of England.
The toil of the journey is like a pilgrimage, the joy is for all those who have suffered from cancer.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. If you met me on my journey and you are making a contribution, please put in the comment section, where we met, as it will be of interest to others. Very many thanks.
So please sponsor me now!
