Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2022 I am running 8 Ultra races, Including the Arc of Attrition, the South West Traverse Extreme, and the Plague.

Mudcrews triple crown.

I am also planning to run the South Coast from Lands' End to Plymouth 165 miles ish, carrying on from my successful run from Devon to Lands' End on the North Coast, 151 miles in November 2021. And run a total of 2022 miles. An average of 5.54 miles per day.

Please give what you can to a worthwhile charity for serving and ex serving personnel.

I will post updates as I complete each Ultra / Run.

Jan,

Arc of Attrition 100 + Miles.

Over 3 hours faster than 2020 earning me a gold buckle for a sub 30 hour finish. 28 hours 59 minutes. 39th male 43rd overall. Thanks to my crew and supporters.

February,

Only 122 training Miles.

March,

HMS Raleigh 70/70/70 Triathlon Standalone Charity event for the RNRMC. I ran 35 of the 70 laps required equalling a marathon. Admittedly I did this throughout the day whilst trying to do my day job.

Cousin Jack 18 Miles.

Brilliant event on the most technical part of the Cornish Coast Path. Finished 25th in 3 hours 27 mins and 25 Seconds. A very successful day for me.

 Sussex Ultra 33 Miles.

Kates first run over 30 miles and she smashed it. Bit of a journey to get to Eastbourne after a passing out class. Drive for 6 hours went to bed got up had porridge ran 33 miles together on the beautiful cliffs, fields and forests. And we managed a sprint finish in a time just under 6:46. Despite the hills and the wind.

April,

KvK 15 miles

That was tough,  two loops with 1 KM of vertical ascent. Managed the first loop in 1:10 then it got hard finished 64th out of 138 finishers in a time of 2:40:10.

Bodmin way 26 miles

Ran this with Katie. nearly 3000 feet of elevation, over 26.27 miles.  Katie did amazingly well coming in as fourth lady in a time of 4:10:20, 13 seconds behind the third lady. We finished 23rd and 24th hand in hand xx

May,

Classic Quarter, 4 x Relay 11 Miles.

All the team ran really hard and finished as 06th team, 02nd mixed team overall in a time of 7 hours and 24 minutes.

South West Traverse Extreme 92 Miles.

That was as tough as I made it. A group of 4 split away from the off with myself Leading GB Ultra Athlete Paul Maskell, Stuart Thomson and My mate Rob. We stayed like this for 10 miles then Paul and Stu took off. Rob and I held onto 03rd until Porthleven aid Station (30m)

We were now 06th. Rob then Pulled out at 36 Miles. Despite waiting for a new tracker at the Lizard Halfway aid station I managed to pull myself back into 05th where I stayed until 8 miles to go, I dropped into 07th as two runners overtook me in quick succession and I couldn't respond. The heat was a killer and they coped with it better than I did.

Paul won in 20 hours ish followed by Stu  and Sy. I finished 06th in a time of 25 hours and 14 minutes.

June,

Tsunami 75 Miles.

17,799 Feet of elevation, I think the toughest run I've ran to date. I ran self supported, relying on the aid stations that didn't have any real food. I was only 25 minutes in front of the cut off at Westward Ho, Halfway point. I did have a drop bag with some snacks in so I ate and drank loads and picked up on the way back, missing a negative split by less than 30 minutes. 29 starters 14 finishers I finished 11th in a time of 22 hours 04 minutes and 22 seconds.

Smugglers Scuttle 13 Miles

Supposed to run this with Katie, we donned our Pirate outfits Parrot and all and off we went. Lands End to Cape Cornwall and Back with a couple of pointless hills and steps. But that is Bysvyken running events style. At mile 7 Katie realised my heavy legs from last week weren't playing so off she went. 13.4 miles 3,392 feet of elevation.

Katie 3 hours 8 Minutes. Me 3 hours 25 minutes.

Hope running festival.

Kate wanted to run 30 miles in preparation for the black rat. I didn’t, but we got a last minute booking. Kate got Covid so I had to go anyway to live in my camper. I ran 30 steady miles and enjoyed the camping. Saving myself for the Plague.

July,

The Plague 62 Miles.

My third Plague and still I haven't done it justice. I vowed never to run it again during the race however once i'd finished I feel I have to go back and run it properly. Halfway turnaround in my fastest time of 7 Hours 30 ish mins. Completed in, although quicker than last year still a disappointing 18Hours 40 Mins. 2019 is still my fastest year.

August,

Lands end to Plymouth 162 Miles.

Well that was epic. I started from Lands End at 15:00 on Thursday 11th August, how did i know the next 55+ hours were going to be so hot. Katie dropped me off and was given £20 for my charity page by some holiday makers from London who were just a little in awe of what I was attempting to do. I ran on my own for the first 19 hours with Katie in the support van. Then I was joined by Trevor from my local running club, he ran me to the Helford Ferry stopping on route to fill up our water bottles with ice water from some more holiday makers at their holiday home. We got to Helford only to find the Ferry wasn't running. Luckily for me Ralph again from Truro Running Club, had hired a Kayak so I rowed across and Ralph Swam.

Katie was now joined by my work Colleague CPO Boyd, crewing a runner is hard work on your own.

A run through Falmouth followed by another Ferry, Falmouth to St Mawes and another Ferry (small boat) St Mawes to Plaice.

I was met at Plaice by two more Truro runners and we ran together to Carne beach. Then into my second night I ran into Caerhayes with yet another Truro runner. 98 miles in I was a bit tired and broken, however there was quite a greeting party at Caerhayes in the middle of the night. Rob my regular running buddy agreed to run with me. He actually ran the last 64 miles with me. Another Runner Stephen got a taxi out in the middle of the night and ran with us for 25 miles, including the hottest and very undulating  6 miles from Polruan to Polperro. Running through Looe I was getting excited as working at HMS Raleigh as a phase 1 DTO the Rame peninsula is quite familiar to me, although the crew stops were getting more regular due to the heat, Seaton, Downderry, and Freathy seemed to pass quickly.

However running past Pier Cellars I started hallucinating due to tiredness. Not to worry the end was in site. We got to Cremyll ferry with 20 minutes to spare. I staggered into Devon and onto the Dolphin Hotel on the Barbican. Being a Submariner i wanted to create a segment called the Dolphins.

From the Dolphin Tavern in Penzance 16 miles from the start to the Dolphin Hotel on the Barbican at the finish 146 miles later.

Unfortunately Strava won't let me have the segment.

September,

Trying to find some speed after all the Ultra's ready for Cardiff.

October,

Cardiff Half 13.1 Miles. Didn't find the speed only managed a 1:38.

Katie, Rob and Claire all managed a PB.

Plym Valley Ultra day 1,  27.7 Miles

After spraining my ankle yesterday I thought I'd give it ago anyway.

I went through the half marathon at 1:51 and the full at 4:29 my marathon PB for this route is 3:44. I finished in 4:48. Glad to finish

Plym Valley Ultra day 2,  27.7 Miles

I don't  recommend running injured at anytime.

Today I went through the half marathon at 1:58 and the full at 4:24. I finished in 4:44. I now hold the two day aggregate record for the Plym Valley Ultra to go with my Half Marathon aggregate record I set in  January 2019. The times may be slow but not many people fancy this route two days running.

Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Run 5KM

Just a little fundraiser for the RBL with a team from work and Katie.

Whilst it wasn't a race, I did finish fourth and Katie eight, after running Plym Valley parkrun. The team raised over £650 for the RBL

November,

Drogo 10

Wasn't going to race this, just run it. After 18 miles yesterday and a couple of Guinness I thought i'd take it easy. However once I started I felt ok and tried hard. I finished in a time of 1:29:32 second in my age group 1 minute 58 seconds behind my age group winner. To think with the right preparation I may have won my age group.

Falmouth Mob Match 5 miles

Never intended to run a fast road race this year. However I turned up with a target of 37 minutes, somewhere in between my best and worst times for this route. 36.59 I'll take that as a win.

December,

Fordh san migel 13 miles

1:47:35 Finished 32nd

Plus as many weekly Parkruns as possible. 25 as of 05/12

Total miles so far this year 1788 as of 14th Dec.

9 Ultra Races this year an average of 67 miles each.
