Story

Thankyou  for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On October 30th 2011 i will taking part in the BUPA Great South Run.The race is a 10 mile event.I decided to step out of retirement for the first time in 11 years when i ran my last ever marathon the London Flora Marathon 2000.I made a number of attempts to get back into training but could not find any motivation. In March 2010 i started working for the Co-operative company. The Co-op decided to have Mencap as their Charity of the year and for sometime i had wanted to get involved and the fact i missed running so much,i decided to set a target in doing a race to raise money for Mencap. The BUPA Great South Run was a race i had decided to take part  because having done the race before and being quite local,i thought it be a great incentive. This race will be for raising as much money as possible for such a good cause and i want to run thise event in memory for my Mum and Dad who both passed away in 2006.

What your support can achieve
  • £25 could help us to make the first visit to a family who have a newly-born child with a learning disability and desperately need advice and support.
  • £50 could pay for two young people with a learning disability to take part in our Gateway Award programme for a year.
  • £140 would enable us to respond to ten calls on our freephone Learning Disability Helpline and provide vital information and support to people with a learning disability and their families.
  • £250 could pay for 16 children who cannot speak to attend a special workshop where they can learn Makaton sign language.
  • £570 could pay for one of our 16-week courses for volunteers, to train them to provide advice and support to families who have a child with a learning disability.
  • £2,000 could provide 250 families who have just found out their baby has a learning disability with an advice pack.
