Story
Hi all,
Thanks for your support with helping me get near to attempting the Cardiff !/2 marathon today – Josh and I both started pretty well, probably too well in Josh’s case as he had to have medical attention for ligament damage to an overworked knee at !0 miles (run too fast in 70 minutes) and Tracy then had to pick him up from the St John’s Ambulance boys.
Meanwhile, I was floating along on a cloud of max dosages of ibuprofen and glucose sachets which worked for the 1 nine miles but the effects wore off during the last 4 miles were just pain and more pain (mostly to my knees as well).
Anyway I achieved a couple of main objectives, 1 was to finish, 2 was to come in before the traffic started again which I managed with a semi respectable time of 2 hours 21 mins.
Thanks again for your donations – we’ve raised £543 so far with a few promises still outstanding which could get us near £600
Cheers,
Julian (& Josh)
UPDATE FROM JULIAN TO ALL DONORS (2nd Oct)
HI ALL, SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE THAT 10 DAYS AGO I SUSTAINED A GRADE 1 TEAR OF MY ACHILLES. DESPITE HAVING PHYSIO AND FOLLOWING RECOMMENDED REST AND RECOVERY PROCESSES I'VE BEEN OUT TWICE ON IT THIS WEEKEND FOR SHORT RUNS (2nd TIME WITH PAINKILLERS) AND IT REALLY IS NO BETTER. I AM STILL GOING TO COMPLETE THE 1/2 MARATHON BUT MUCH MORE SLOWLY THAN I WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE ACHIEVED WITH A MIX OF RUNNING AND WALKING (& TRIPLE DOSES OF IBUPROFEN). JOSH WILL STILL BE RUNNING AND AIMING FOR A DECENT TIME.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF UNDER THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES YOU'D LIKE TO WITHDRAW YOUR DONATION, THERE ARE WAYS TO DO THIS VIA JUST GIVING, I JUST NEED WRITTEN CONFIRMATION TO DO IT.
THANKS
JULIAN
Thanks for visiting our justgiving page! My dad's getting older and I'm reaching my physical peak so we thought we'd meet each other half way and do the cardiff half marathon. We are raising for the Breast Cancer Campaign, helping to fund research into finding a cure for the disease. Breast Cancer is a subject close to our hearts as it has affected our family personally so any donation would be massively appreciated!
UPDATE: Into week 4 of training - within the first few week we only did 3 miles together at a time, and the timing on those runs didn't look fantastic, so we joined an Outdoor Fitness group which is bases its training on the half marathon, upping a mile for a run each week. The first week was 5 miles and my dad looked about 20 years older by the experience once he finished it! But we've been putting in the hard graft since and on our last 7 mile run managed to average at just about 10 minutes a mile, so progress is definitely being made!
Thank you all for your donations so far! It means so much and goes towards a fantastic cause. If you haven't given yet, then good karma is only a click away!
