Story
As a churchwarden for St John's and also for the Parish Church of St Mary's, I'm jointly responsible for the upkeep of both buildings and anxious to safeguard their future. After two years of largely successful fundraising to replace 10 huge windows in St John's, things have now reached a critical stage. We need to raise another £70,000 by the end of January to secure the future of St John's. Failure to do so could result in the closure of the building on safety grounds, while success will give it a new lease of life, with vastly improved facilities as well as the urgently needed new windows.
Numerous groups, societies and clubs regularly use the many meeting rooms and halls in St John's. This is effectively a community centre as well as the only church in Bridgetown, which is quite a deprived area across the river from Totnes. To lose this facility would be a major blow for the town as a whole.
I much enjoy walking in Devon's glorious countryside and try to get out every day if I can. The photo below shows part of the coast path, where I often walk. So doing a 24-mile walk may not sound like a big deal, but it can be quite challenging at this time of year. Please support me if you can.
