Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
WE MADE IT!!! It took us just over 13hours on the 26th September 2013. Big swell, North Easterly Wind, Dive-Bombing Gannets and even talk of a Great White Shark off the Kent-Sussex Coast.....
Heart disease is a massive probem across the world, particularly in Wales where it is the biggest killer. All too often, young indivduals die of heart disease which could have been prevented by earlier detection and treatment of the underlying causes. The HRFW is a small charity which funds great research into heart disease and helps support the education and training of scientists, doctors, nurses and other cardiac specialists.
I took on this exciting challenge with a group of colleagues, including a few old friends with whom I used to play water polo many years ago at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School.
I'm dedicating my swim to the memory of my father, the musician Pat Halcox, who passed away earlier this year. His support, encouragement and truly positive good humored approach to life will always be an inspiration to me.
All the funds raised will go to support research and education into improving the understanding and treatment of serious heart problems that are all too often the cause of avoidable early deaths.
We value your visit to our pages and are really grateful for any support you are able to give to this worthy cause.
