Story

Next year it will be 10 years since Adam left us very suddenly.  I have not done any fund raising for a long time , but a few weeks ago after listening to Chris Evans @achrisevans  on Virgin Radio talking about the London Marathon,  it gave me the inspiration to want to run it again.

It will be 11 years (2012) since I last ran the London Marathon, some what older and slower now a days but I felt what better way to mark Adam's 10 year anniversary by doing it again.

I approached SADS to ask if I could run the Marathon on their behalf in memory of Adam, and today (2/11/2022) the email came through stating I had a place with them.

At the moment I'm still in shock, but excited that I will be able to mark this anniversary by doing something significant and be able to raise money for such a good cause.

Time passes so very quickly and life keeps moving on but things remain in our memory forever!  Adam is missed everyday, we keep him alive in our chats and memories but I will never forget the words I spoke on the day of Adam's funeral, it would be the only chance that I had of letting everyone know what a wonderful person, husband, daddy, son, son in law brother, brother in law, uncle, friend and employer he was. I wouldn't ever get the chance again to let people know what he meant to me and the girls and I was able to make him proud of me for one last time...

WELL HOW CAN I DESCRIBE ADAM, THERE ARE SO MANY WORDS:-

SELFLESS, GENUINE, DETERMINED, INSPIRING,GENEROUS,DRIVEN,UNASSUMING, PRIVATE, UNIQUE, IMAGINATIVE, PRACTICAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, COMPETITIVE, SHREWD AND A PERFECTIONIST.

I COULD STAND HERE ALL DAY AND TALK ABOUT ADAM  AND IT STILL WOULDN’T DO HIM JUSTICE.

BUT MOST OF ALL ADAM HAS BEEN MY ROCK, AND WONDERFUL SUPPORT FOR THE LAST 27 YEARS.

MOST OF YOU WILL KNOW THAT I MET ADAM AT SCHOOL, WE WERE IN THE SAME YEAR AND IN THE SAME CLASS FOR MATHS AND ENGLISH!!! (IF HE WERE HERE NOW HE WOULD BE TELLING YOU THAT HE WAS FAR BETTER AT MATHS THAN I WAS) AND I CAN SAY THIS IS VERY TRUE.

ADAM HAD SUCH A DRIVE FOR LIFE BOTH PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY. ADAM LOVED ARCHITECTURE AND HIS JOB. HE WAS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN, LIKE I’VE NEVER KNOW ANYONE ELSE TO BE. HE WAS ALWAYS SO ANIMATED SITTING AT THE COMPUTER DESIGNING.  EVEN THESE WORDS SEEM AN INADEQUATE WAY TO EXPRESS JUST HOW MUCH HE FELT ABOUT HIS WORK.

HE TOOK SUCH PRIDE IN HIS WORK HE WOULD ALWAYS RESEARCH THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY AND THE BEST POSSIBLE DEAL! HE HAD COURAGE IN HIS CONVICTIONS AND I KNEW WHEN ADAM ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS THAT HE WOULD ALWAYS BE RIGHT.  HE HAD SUCH AN EMENSE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ALL THINGS FOR SUCH A YOUNG PERSON

HE WAS VERY MUCH OF THE OPINION THAT YOU SHOULDN’T ASK SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOU UNLESS YOU COULD OR WOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT YOURSELF.

I HOPE THE PEOPLE AT WORK AND ESPECIALLY IN HIS TEAM, WHO HE REGARDED SO HIGHLY AND KNEW HOW HARD YOU ALL WORKED FOR HIM,  CONTINUE IN ADAM’S WAY, THAT YOU’LL CONTINUE THE FANTASTIC LEGACY OF BUILDINGS THAT HE HAS PRODUCED AND THAT HE WOULD BE PROUD OF.  AS ADAM WOULD SAY “ITS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL”.

ON A PERSONAL LEVEL, ADAM HAS BEEN THE MOST REMARKABLE, HUSBAND AND DADDY.  HE WAS DEVOTED TO HIS GIRLS AS MUCH AS THEY ARE DEVOTED TO HIM.

THEIR FACES LITGH UP THE ROOM WHEN HE EVER CAME INTO THE HOUSE AND THEIR SCREAMS OF JOY AS HE LIFTED THEM IN THE AIR ASKING THEM ABOUT THEIR DAY WILL STAY WITH ME FOREVER.  HOW WOULD GRACE AND ALICE DESCRIBE HIM?

“AWESOME”

AS FOR ME I HAVE NO WORDS GOOD ENOUGH TO EXPRESS MY DEPTH OF LOVE AND LOSS FOR ADAM.

HE HAS LEFT A VOID SO BIG IN MY LIFE AND I FEEL SO EMPTY THAT I DON’T KNOW HOW I SHALL BE ABLE TO CARRY ON!  BUT ADAM WOULD BE SAYING TO ME

“JUE BE PRACTICAL, DON’T WORRY ABOUT THINGS THAT YOU CAN’T CHANGE, FOCUS ON WHATS IMPORTANT AND GET A GRIP”

AND THAT I SHALL BE ABLE TO DO AS I KNOW HOW MUCH HE LOVED ME.

THEY BROKE THE MOULD WHEN ADAM WAS MADE. HE WAS AN ALL ROUNDER AND GROUNDED INDIVIDUAL. I AM SO LUCKY THAT WE MET SO YOUNG AND WERE ABLE TO HAVE SUCH WONDERFUL AND MEMORABLE TIMES TOGETHER.

I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL CARDS AND LETTERS THAT PEOPLE HAVE SENT TO US.  I AM OVERWHELMED AT HOW HIGHLY REGARDED AND THOUGHT OF ADAM WAS.

I KNOW HE KNEW HE WAS THE BEST AT HIS JOB, YOU HAD TO BE IN HIS LINE OF WORK.  BUT I DON’T THINK HE REALISED THE TYPE OF RESPECT THAT HE COMMANDED.

I SHALL JUST END ON A LINE THAT ADAM ALWAYS SAID TO ME

“JUE LESS IS MORE”

Three words that really remind me of Adam, and I had them placed on a plaque on top of his coffin are:-

SELFLESS, INSPIRING AND IRREPLACEABLE
