Story
Hello! My name is Julia Jackson. I am a junior at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. This year I have the honor of being a part of the Overlook Junior Board, where we are fundraising for safe rooms as a part of the upcoming pediatric emergency room at Overlook Medical Center.
The safe room we are fundraising for will help kids who need this extra safety when they visit the hospital. Going to the hospital can be scary, we want to make these visits as safe, comfortable and seamless as possible for children.
The safe room we are raising money for combines both emergency room and inpatient aspects to help people up to 21 years old. Right now to become an inpatient, children must travel to the 6th floor of the hospital and switch their doctors and nurses, many of whom they have become very comfortable with. These new safe rooms will ensure that their inpatient care does not force them to be relocated and they can keep their same doctors and nurses. Keeping the same team not only increases comfort but also reduces the chance of gaps in care that inevitably come with the transfer of care of the patient.
This fundraiser is very important to me because I know that it is something so many children and teenagers can benefit from. This is such a crucial part of the pediatric emergency room that will mitigate patient error and promote safety, comfort, and happiness for patients and their loved ones in the hospital setting. This is the type of project that will help so many people for decades to come.
