UPDATE - Sunday 26th April
Well I've done it!!! I finished in 4 hours, 52 minutes and 2 seconds! It was tough going, particularly the middle section but I really enjoyed the last 8 miles of it - probably because I could visualise the end! The crowd support was excellent all the way round and it was lovely seeing my mum at 25 miles. I'm pretty sore right now and hobbling around but I'm sure that will pass soon.
Thank you to everyone who very generously donated to my charity - The Buscot Ward. When I've got all the money in I shall look forward to presenting it to them. In some small way it is my way of saying thank you to them for the tremendous care that Charlotte received when she was born.
UPDATE - Tuesday 21st April
Well the race is now less than a week away and I have to say I am looking forward to it! My training has all gone to plan and I am now enjoying quite a restful week with just a couple of very short runs. If you are going to watch the race and want to look out for me I'm going to be wearing black lycra shorts and a cerise pink short sleeve t-shirt. As for time, I won't be breaking any records but I will be finishing. I estimate to finish it between 4 1/2 and 5 hours. Wish me luck!!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Yes you're right, I probably am crazy trying to train for the London Marathon whilst looking after two young children, but one of them is the reason I am doing this, please read on...
The Buscot Babies Fund supports Buscot Ward, the Special Care Baby Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Our daughter Charlotte spent the first 10 days of her life in the unit, so I have first hand experience of the terrific work that the dedicated staff provide. The unit has 22 cots and on average 4 babies a day are admitted needing intensive care. The level of care that Charlotte received was exemplary and enabled her to go on to develop into a healthy and normal child, seeing her now you would never know that she'd had such a rough start in life. The unit also provides accommodation on site to enable parents to remain at the hospital close to their baby, it was this that allowed me to be with Charlotte during her time there.
I am now going to endure running 26 long miles in order to raise money in support of the Buscot Babies Fund. All donations are very gratefully received and help to ensure that babies, like Charlotte, receive the best possible care.
