Story
My beautiful mam was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in October 2008.
She was a wonderful mother and wife who always put her family first, nothing was too much trouble, always there with her beautiful smile and kind words of wisdom. She meant the world to us.
We decided from the very begining that she would be cared for at home rather than in a residential/nursing home, and that's what we did. It was hard, very hard but I don't regret our decision for one minute, although there was times when we thought we couldn't carry on any longer, her beautiful smile and sense of humour melted our hearts. She was my Mam after all.
Sadly the progression of the disease was slowly and painfully taking her away from us. She lost her smile because she no longer knew how to, she couldn't walk because she no longer knew how to, but the worst of it all was she no longer knew how to swallow. She went from a bubbly 10 stone to a very very thin 4 stone within months, and that was so hard to witness.
My beautiful Mam was dying.
Sadly she passed away on 2nd January 2012 at home.
I hope one day there will be a cure for this Cruel Wicked Disease.
Any donations, however small will be very welcome for such a worthy cause.
As most of my family & friends know my dad was diagnosed with mixed dementia. Dad is 90 years old and also suffers from COPD & heart failure, his mobility is extremely bad. Even though he struggles terribly with his mobility he is a very strong willed man & to see him suffer like this breaks our hearts.
I will be doing the Humber bridge walk at the end of this month (Sept 2018) to help raise awareness & funds for the Alzheimer's Society but this time walking for my dad too.
Please sponser me, even if it's just £1.00 I would be most greatful.
Thank you for reading my story.
