Story

The training has officially started and my countdown calander is up.  (see training blog below) I still don't think I fall into the 'happy jogger' category yet but certainly my previously feared allergy to running (I would get all red and short of breath) is easing and those feelings of inhaling tiny sharp pieces of glass in my chest after a run are also improving -apparently that's not normal!

I am doing this to raise money for Macmillan as they did such a great job with my Gran Doga who sadly died last year, I feel its the least I can do.  I was so impressed with how they dealt with not only Doga but also the familly and they certainly allowed her the dignity she deserved in her final few weeks.  I am very grateful for all the hard work they did, I only ever hear positive reports from others who have had dealings with Macmillan so dig deep folks any donations will be put to good use and greatly appreciated by me.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

TRAINING BLOG 10 WEEKS TO GO

Just got back from a week windsurfing/surfing/running/sunbathing -(yes I said sunbathing) on Tiree -awsome weather.  Managed some good runs the main issue was sharing the roads with the wildstock and avoiding thier deposits!  Unfortunately, I was not aware of this, but my body is old -thats what it is telling me and does not respond so well to long runs -hmmmm think I will double up my glucosamine!!

9 WEEKS TO GO

Ok so my weekly 'long run' is still not quite even up to the training run that most people at this stage are doing several times a week.  Beginning to feel the pressure.  Went out and bought myself some of those energy gels with caffiene -the problem is you are supposed to take the one with caffeine before you start running -that means you have a a fairly small window to get running before this stuff kicks in -i was positively bouncing round the house yesterday and then by the time it came to run was bloomin shattered!

6 WEEKS TO GO

Well I certainly looked the part for my 'long run' this week -little bum bag thingy with little bottles filled with special make you go faster and further juice (didnt work) and my little gels all tucked into the special little elastic bits on the outside of this little bum bag thing with my little ipod tucked inside loaded with lots of inspirational tunes (again didnt work) -hmmm the gel things explode when you try to open them while running -I probably used more energy trying to bite the top off them than I actually gained from them and as for those little bottles -great if you are not planning on actually quenching any sort of thirst remotely, and as for the run..........17 miles the first 11 were great -I felt like I could do this marathon millarky, the last 6 however..........

3 DAYS TO GO.....

So my goals have changed slightly from finishing in under 5 hours to just finishing (The Berlin Marathon only allows 6hours 15 to complete before you are scooped up by the dreaded bus along with those in fluffy bunny rabbit suits and pre war diving suits.)  One thing this training has taught me is that I am old -its official - my body does not like longdistance running and feels quite strongly that I should not be doing it.  It likes to remind me by throwing in the odd injury here and there which has severely hampered my training.  I am just looking to get round this course, im not expecting any great time as I foresee a bit of walking will be involved -bloomin knee.

I would like to thank everyone so much for their sponsorship and I will be completing this thing because of the money it will raise -so thank you and I will be thinking of it as I navigate the streets of Berlin.

Wish me luck!
