Story
We are taking on the Himalayan Trek and raising money for St Margaret's Hospice because in January 2022, following routine screening, Judith was diagnosed with colon cancer.
This came as a shock, as I had experienced no symptoms. My journey from screening, through diagnosis and surgery at Yeovil Hospital, was very efficient and I was well supported and recovered well. Follow up with the surgeon however informed me there was lymph node involvement and this indicated chemotherapy treatment.
St Margaret's Hospice supported us through 4 rounds of chemotherapy. Not an easy time with side effects and an emergency admission to hospital for 10 days. The team at St Margaret's who managed my treatment were always available for advice and support.
I feel very fortunate that my cancer was detected early enough for treatment to be effective, one year on follow up scans are clear. We are also very fortunate and extremely grateful for the support of our family, friends and the team at St Margaret's, without whom the challenges of cancer diagnosis and its treatment would have been very lonely.
We are taking part in this trek for several reasons
- As a personal challenge and opportunity for adventure.
- To share our story hoping it will encourage everyone to attend all health screening available. Early detection saves lives!!
- To raise money to support the work of St Margaret's Hospice so everyone facing cancer and life limiting diseases can continue to be supported on their individual journey's.
Thank you for all your support.
