Story
"First it comes for your voice. Then it takes your legs. It tries to rob you of your breath. But it can't sap your spirit" – Rob Burrow MBE (2020)
On 14th May 2023, I will be running the Rob Burrow Marathon (MY FIRST EVER MARATHON), fundraising for Leeds Hospitals Charity in support of the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) appeal to build the new Rob Burrow Centre in Leeds.
The above quote from Rob on MND has definitely motivated me to take the step and sign-up for this challenging marathon event in Leeds. Starting and finishing at Headingley Stadium, the home to Leeds Rhinos, Rob's Team from 2001 to 2017, where he made over 400 appearances.
It is an honour to run a Marathon in such a noteworthy event to raise money towards supporting Leeds Hospitals Charity in their bid to raise £5 million to build The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, to give people living with MND the best quality of life. The Centre will see all MND services housed under one roof for the first time
Challenging myself at the same time as raising much needed funds for the centre, I didn’t hesitate to sign-up for the Marathon when the opportunity arose. Hopefully the weather is kind to us on the day and the 26.2miles are not as gruelling as anticipated (especially the hills and run back towards Leeds from Otley).
Any support and donations you can give will be so gratefully received and go a long way in helping those affected by this horrific disease – THANK YOU
P.S.
I appreciate everyone might not be aware of Rob and his journey with MND, but if you have a free 30mins I can recommend the BBC Documentary in the links below.
