Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Last year I took part in the mission to Kasese in Uganda and was so motivated to see the end of Rabies, I decided to return this year .
In July Mission Rabies is expanding its work in Uganda by moving south to work with the communities surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park- home to half of the worlds mountain gorilla population!
My cousin Sally as a Nurse , Midwife and health visitor was so inspired when I told her about the trip, she decided to join me and we are therefore heading off to Uganda together. All donations made on this Just giving page, go directly to the charity and are not used for our trip expenses, which we are self funding.
Over 8 days we will be working in teams setting up static point vaccination clinics along the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Forest Corridor. At each static point we will be carrying out life-saving work- ensuring that as many dogs as possible are vaccinated against this devastating disease.
To ensure that we reach the 70% vaccination coverage needed to create herd immunity from rabies in the dog population, we will be trained to use the state-of the art epidemiological WVS Data Collection App. This allows us to collect vital vaccination and dog population data, ensuring that our work is scientifically robust. Working alongside an experienced local team, we will have the unique opportunity to use our skills right within the heart of the local communities.
