Story
Thank you for visiting my Shine fundraising page in support of bowel cancer research. Please dig deep and sponsor me – it’s quick, easy and totally secure.
I definitely won't forget the day my mum told me she was ill. It was during my first year at university and I was home for reading week. We had just run from Tesco to her car because it was raining hard and she just came out with it. “I have cancer.” The tears came before I think I had even digested the news properly.
My first thought was of a summer evening several years previously. I had a friend over for dinner and we were sat at the table eating. I’m not sure how the conversation had gotten on to cancer but it had and I vividly remember my mum saying that one of us sat at that table would most likely get cancer. But I didn’t believe it. Even if I knew that that was the statistic I certainly didn’t think my mum would be the one to get ill.
My friend Louise recently lost her great uncle to bowel cancer and agreed to take part with me so if anyone would like to sponser us that would be amazing.
Each day in the UK, around 110 people are told they have bowel cancer. Thanks to improvements in diagnosis and treatment, the number of people surviving for five years or more has more than doubled in the last 40 years. But sadly, bowel cancer still claims around 44 lives each day.
Amazing people like you help support Cancer Research UK’s research into new treatments for bowel cancer. By sponsoring me you can help more people survive bowel cancer.
If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.
Thank you so much for all your support!
