Story
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I made the decision to put myself massively out of my comfort zone due to a couple of personal reasons recently, but there’s one in particular that’s close to my heart.
My beautiful niece Sophie recently got diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) which is a subtype of Transverse Myelitis. Inflammation of the spinal cord and central nerve involvement.
Sophie tested positive to Enterovirus after a week of a cold and temperatures.
The virus has attacked her nervous system causing paralysis from the neck down and breathing muscles also weakened so had a tracheostomy and is on a portable ventilator.
As it’s such a rare condition with no cure, more research is needed to improve how it is diagnosed and managed.
By doing this half marathon I am hoping to raise awareness of the disorder and help support the charity Transverse Myelitis Society in their goals moving forward to help support anyone unlucky enough to be diagnosed.
Any donation no matter how small would be appreciated so much by me. It’s not just the financial goal for the charity it would help but it would also help me in my training preparation and on the day to achieve what I want to for this cause.
Thank you in advance,
Josh
