Story

This is my beautiful 2-year-old son Joshua Steven Hoyle. On the 18th August 2021, the day after my birthday, my life changed forever as Joshua and my husband Andy Hoyle were involved in a hit and run car collision.

Sadly, my husband died at the scene so me and my family never got the chance to say our last goodbyes.

Thanks to the quick action and response of the member's of the public at the scene of the incident, Joshua was kept alive until the air ambulance was able to take over and get him safely to King's College Hospital. This is where I met my baby boy fighting for his life, as you can imagine a normal day at work had turned into my biggest nightmare! Having just been told my husband had died at the scene of the car collision, I was now being told my son was struggling to fight for his life. My world was spinning and I couldn't come to terms with any of it.

The staff at King's College Hospital were outstanding and really took great care of me and my family. They gave me the time to process the information I had been given before taking me to see my son. Seeing my little baby boy in the most unreal setting truly broke my heart. Joshua was on life support and was cared for by a round the clock team of doctors and nurses in the Thomas Cook Critical Care Unit at King's College Hospital.  As you can imagine I was not able to sleep, eat or function in any way normal.  Fortunately, the team at King's provided me and my mum with a room so that we could come away from the ward and have a safe, private space to process everything and get some much-needed rest.  It also gave me the facility to visit Joshua at any time day or night, and with every precious moment passing I never wanted to leave him.  Nevertheless, staff always reassured me they would look after my little boy while I was away, mainly to deal with the practicalities of losing my beloved husband, and they did a fantastic job.

On the 27th August 2021, Joshua sadly passed away from the injuries he had sustained from the car collision 9 days earlier, having been looked after by the Thomas Cook Critical Care Unit 24 hours a day throughout this period.

My little boy had a big heart and always loved life to the fullest. After much consideration and an inspiring story of a little girl called Georgina who donated her organs to save so many people, I came to the decision I would like Joshua to do the same. Joshua was our only child and was a true miracle baby for myself and my late husband Andy, therefore I believe his purpose was to go on and help others in their time of need. Organ donation is so important, it truly has helped me with my grieving process.  The thought of my baby saving other people from the heartache I have endured gives me so much comfort, knowing he is giving a family time that I no longer have really is something money can't buy. The care the team took with my little boy was truly a remarkable process and the memories me and my family have of his final hours will be with us forever.

The love, care and continued support that King's College Hospital have provided to me and my family in our time of need will never be forgotten.  That's why I would like to ask for your help in raising awareness and money for such an important ward that helps sick, dying children and their families, and a special place that provided me with so much when I felt I had nothing left to live for. With your help I hope we can make a difference and if you ever find yourself in similar unfortunate circumstances, I hope the money will help the Thomas Cook ward provide you with the crucial time to spend with your critically ill loved one.

Thank you so much for visiting my page and please only donate what you can, I truly would love Joshua’s memory to live on after he fought for 9 days to give others the gift of life.  Hopefully, we can make a difference to someone else in their darkest hours.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has helped, loved and supported me and my family during this difficult time.

Mrs Trudie Hoyle.
