Story
My mum was the driving force in our family. She was the organiser, the socialiser, the one who pushed us on, and kept us moving.
I know age comes to us all, but when, around 5 years ago, she started to show signs of dementia, I never knew how cruel this disease could be. A gradual decline recently accelerated, and now, the mum I had is gone, although she is still here. She has moments where she is able to interact with us, but these can be interspersed with periods of anxiety, disorientation, stress, and agression to others. She gets trapped in another dimension. It is awful.
This is why I am supporting Alzheimer’s Society. They do a lot towards transforming the landscape of dementia. And we all probably know someone who is affected like my mum - this is such an important cause.
