I've signed myself up to one of the toughest single-day sporting events in the world... on 25 July I'll be taking on the Ironman! 2.4 mile swim -> 112 mile cycle -> 26 mile run
A little over 3 years ago I'd have given you the daftest of looks if you told me I'd soon be eating brick sessions for breakfast. But in 2017 my life took a tragic turn with the sudden death of my cousin Joe Harris, who was like a brother. Joe was a brilliant triathlete and planned to do an Ironman in 2018 (whilst sporting a huge grin!) but never got the chance [the photo above shows Joe with his parents].
So I'm pushing myself to up my game and take on the challenge, together with my training partner and nutritional coach - Joe's phenomenal 60+ y.o. mum. It's been a long road, we have persevered through setbacks including injuries, event postponements and of course Covid-19, but ironically the exercise regime has done untold good for our wellbeing.
Please give generously, your money will go via Beer-Harris Memorial Trust to projects supporting people who are struggling with their mental health, social isolation and those living with debilitating mental illness.
P.S. If you feel up to the task and want to support us on the day at Nottingham, that would be special! (You would need to make your own travel and accommodation arrangements)
