On the 26th October I will be running the Istanbul intercontinental marathon - starting in Asia, over the spectacular Bosporus, then alongside it into the heart of the ottoman imperial capital, and finishing by the Haghia Sophia - once a church, then turned mosque, now a museum, and the Topkapı palace. That is - if I am able to finish it. This will be my first marathon!

I will run for Salgados - that unique, beautiful and threatened wetland in southern Portugal. For the last few years the RSPB and SPEA (BirdLife in Portugal) have been working towards the legal protection of this site (which is an Important Bird Area), and it's effective management. It has not been easy, but we will eventually get it.

We do need to install urgently a water level management system that will prevent the frequent draining episodes this wetland has been experiencing - please help me finish this marathon by donating generously. We need to get about 3,000 € to pay for the necessary engineering and construction work.
