Story
In March 2021 my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 advanced and aggressive terminal prostate cancer, not only did it shake my family but it scared me immensely,
I have kept quiet and tried to pretend it wasn’t affecting me or my dad, moving forward as if it wasn’t real. I can no longer stay silent about it.
My dad is a fighter, he is the strongest man I know and he has and will fight with every day. He is also very stubborn (in the best way) and won’t let his cancer define his life, but rather motivate it. He set himself the challenge of walking 11,500 miles, the equivalent of walking from London to New Zealand. He has been smashing this challenge along with my mum and all of the friends he has made during his journey; but it is my turn to help participate in his aim to raise awareness towards prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men, and is the most common cancer amongst men in the UK. I urge everyone to encourage their loved ones, fathers, friends and family to get checked for prostate cancer, especially those over the age of 50.
On September 17th I will be walking a marathon, 26 miles, to raise awareness and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
I need your support. With the help of any donation at all, research and education surrounding prostate cancer could save so many lives globally. And whilst my dad may not be so lucky as to beat prostate cancer, he can do everything he can to help other people in the future do so.
It has taken me over two years to speak up about my dad. This cancer is a killer, I really want to be a part of the change that helps reverse that narrative. We all must speak up and speak out to ensure that our loved ones are checked for prostate cancer.
If you’re still here reading, thank you. I cannot explain in words how much it means to me. It is hard, no sugar coating; it is devastating. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Thank you ❤️
