Story
Chailey Heritage School, in Sussex, is a charitable special school for children and young adults, aged between 3 and 19, with complex physical disabilities, including visual and hearing impairments, and associated learning difficulties. Some of our pupils have a profound learning disability in addition to other disabilities. The school prides itself on the fact that Every young person at Chailey Heritage School will be given every opportunity to make progress towards fulfilment. They will never, ever give up looking for ways to support their young people to make their own choices in life, and to achieve their own desired destinations.
The Deis house council went on a Trip on Monday the 13th of October to the school. What we found was a team of hardworking staff dedicated to the support of your children who haven't been as lucky as most of the people reading this now. However, with the facilities provided and the loving support of the employees and volunteers we saw that these children were able to have opportunities to gain a sense of independence and self fulfilment; whether it be in music, sports, computing or as we saw from one boy Graffiti art. The most apparent thing we saw however, was simply the fact that all of the children, despite their wide range of disabilities, were happy.
The school also allows the children to develop skill which will be beneficial later on in life when they embark on further independance. This brings me on to the reason for our fundraising. What we hope to be able to do is raise as much money so that we can invest in new facilities and technology which will benefit the Children.
Some of the things your money could go towards are:
iPads
Eye tracking computers (for children who cannot use a computer mouse)
Clickers (devices that allow children to play games and access functions on computers)
Specially designed computers for the disabled.
Musical Technology
Your money will help people less fortunate than ourselves enjoy a better childhood which will lead to a better life.
