Story
On the 27th June I will be attempting a long-distance swim along with fellow swimmer Georgina Quayle (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/georgina-quayle)
to raise money for some great charities doing brilliant work day-to-day especially given the current situation we have found ourselves in.
Starting at 7am, we will be swimming 19km for covid-19, non-stop open water at Box End park. The equivalent of 760 lengths of a swimming pool in one go, this will be by far the longest swim that either of us have ever attempted and will be a testing challenge.
I have worked with Mind before and seen the brilliant work they are able to do for those suffering from mental health problems and offer help to everyone regardless of age or background, everyone deserves help, and not everyone can always spot the signs of someone struggling. 1 in 4 people experience mental health problems with only around 25% of people receiving support each year. Mind aims to give access to advice and support to millions of people nationally and locally with 130 "Local Mind" networks across the country, as well as give everyone experiencing a mental health problem the support and respect they need.
The first time I had the chance to get back swimming during this pandemic, I can honestly say my smile was ear to ear and it felt incredible to be back in the water. Sport is an incredible tool that has been proven to help combat depression and improve mental health, one of my goals with this challenge is to promote the use of sport to help maintain a clear and happier mind. If I can inspire even one person to set themselves a challenge or try something new, then I will consider this a success.
