Story

After swearing to never run another marathon again, I will be running the London Marathon on the 21st April 2024.

Having previously ‘run’ Amsterdam Marathon in 2022, I swiftly realised that running was not for me, stumbling across the finish line in 5hrs 30mins. Happy that I could say that I had officially run a marathon, I was content to never do it again.

However, as with all best laid plans, this has now gone awry…

2023 marked the 10-year anniversary of the passing of a friend of mine – she had Cystic Fibrosis and passed away at the age of 20. She lived every moment as if it could have been her last and never let her condition govern the way she lived her life. So, when Cystic Fibrosis Trust approached me in 2023 to run the London Marathon in 2024, there was only one answer I could give.

I am doing this to raise funds for this incredible charity – all donations will go towards funding treatment, research and (hopefully one day) a cure. All donations are greatly appreciated, large or small.

As this will be my second marathon, I am aware some of you may need extra motivation to donate. As such, I will be aiming to shave over half an hour from my time. To keep me accountable, I will be committing to matching 1% of all donations for every minute I am over 5 hours (so if I equal my previous effort, I will have to match 30% of the donated amount…)

My employer will also match the first £500 raised.

To be clear:
- I still hate running
- I am still bad at running
- 3km on the treadmill this morning almost wiped me out

So please donate to make this misery worthwhile.

*About the Charity*

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing. Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all. Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.
