Story
Hi everyone,
I am running for Myeloma UK in memory of my mum Stella Gervin who passed away on Sunday 12th September 2021.
My Mum was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in February 2021 and began treatment soon after. Our family cannot thank the healthcare staff, nurses and doctors in Northern Ireland enough who looked after our mum.
When I had time to process the enormity of the situation my wife-to-be and I made the decision to strip back our wedding to just immediate family only.
On the Thursday 9th September, the day before my wedding, we found out my mum had been given her last rites.
My family had been fortunate enough to see mum that night at Craigavon hospital despite the covid restrictions.
My wife-to-be and I made the difficult decision to go ahead with our wedding the following day.
Although it was a tough day it was the right decision as we had some peace knowing my mum could listen to the ceremony with my step dad and knew we had got married in the end after weeks of helping us to get there.
The myeloma website provided invaluable information and support during this period. It helped my family and I come to terms with what our mum was going through and helped us face it together.
My mum was such a caring and loving woman. She had a particular interest for fundraising for those in need and now I feel the need to fundraise on her behalf for a cause I know she would surely be behind.
Lots of Love,
Joseph
