Story

Hello :)

My name is Jordan Wilson, im seventeen and currently in my final year at  Galashiels Academy where I am studying Higher Art, Higher Philosophy and Advanced Higher History. When I am back from Uganda I hope to go to either Dundee or Edinburgh University to study Primary Education.

I live in a small village called Stow in the Scottish Borders, which nobody has ever heard of and if they have, they never say it right! ha

So about three months ago I decided I was going to go on a gap year...

In October I spent a challenging, yet amazing week up on the Hebridean Islan Of Coll and I have been selected by Project trust to spend a year primary teaching in Uganda.  I will also get the chance to set up a secondary project, maybe  music or art , you never know though.

Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is bordered by five other countries: Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania. Uganda is home to the rare mountain gorilla and many more amazing animals including the African Elephant. English is Uganda's official language but around the country there is 33 indigenous languages spoken! With a population of roughly 22.2 million  Uganda is a vibrant, interesting country and there is so much to see!

One last thing, I found the national anthem;

Oh Uganda, May God uphold thee, We lay our future in thy hand, United, free, for liberty, Together, We always stand. Oh! Uganda the land of freedom, Our Love and Laboud we give, And with neighbours all at our country's  call, In peace and friendship we'll live. Oh! Uganda the land that feeds us, By sun and fertile soil grown, for our own dear land we'll always stand,  The pearl of Africa's crown.

We are going out to make a difference to a small community, it will be a life changing experience so please, any donation, big or small, whether it is raffle prizes or a venue, anything is fully appreciated and goes a long way.
