Story
One of my loved ones has experienced this in their life, which makes this charity and fundraiser a lot more personal for me. Not only did I see how much this affected them, I also discovered how the aftercare from charities like these can make such a significant positive impact on victims' lives. It is hard for me to even comprehend how this exists in our world and after seeing how badly it affected someone very close to me, I want to do everything I can to help tackle this issue. Which is why I have decided to run in the Southampton half marathon and create this fundraiser.
In the UK, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experience domestic abuse. It is one of the most repulsive problems that still exists in our society and even if you personally don’t know of anyone who has been through this, I am certain you can imagine how damaging this is on people’s life’s. No matter the money you donate, your contribution will make a difference and help create safer environments for these victims to live in. This charity’s aim is not only to stop domestic abuse, but also help those affected by creating support systems for them to recover. This involves creating a supportive and homely environment where victims can recover from the trauma of domestic abuse. As well as, creating their new beginning in life. It is not easy for anyone who has suffered domestic abuse to reach out and seek help/safety. Which is why it is even more vital that anyone suffering from this needs all the help they can get and that they deserve.
