Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My friend Julie Appleby suffered a stroke in April last year. This resulted in Julie spending 9 months in hospital. During that time Julie and her family were told that she would probably spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair as well as having speech / communication difficulties known as Aphasia.
After leading a normal and active life you can only imagine how difficult and challenging life has become for Julie and her family, including her 7 year old daughter. However, with the determination and support Julie has had, she is now back home and walking, even up the stairs! The amount of progress Julie has made in such a short space of time has been to the amazement of the specialists she has been seeing.
In order to deal with her Aphasia Julie was referred to the speech therapy centre at Newcastle University which is helped by a small local charity called NETA (North East Trust for Aphasia). With the help and support provided by NETA Julie is making great progress as are many other Aphasia sufferers.
Julie has a long battle ahead, but with the support of this great organisation it will be made much easier. Just remember if you can donate, no matter how small, then please do so and help NETA to continue to give the fantastic support that they currently already do to all Aphasia sufferers.
Julie and her family would just like to say a massive thank you to you and NETA for your support
