Story
I am always looking to push myself and by entering an Ironman 70.3 this was one sure way to do it!!!
I love turning my hand to a new challenge and triathlon was certainly that when I was first introduced to the sport through a friend. At the time I couldn't compete due to a dodgy shoulder which prevented me from being able to swim.
After getting this shoulder operated on I soon began swimming once it was fully recovered and then I finally entered the world of triathlon last year doing some short sprint races.
After getting really excited after my friend had completed this same race last year I too entered, maybe, at the time not realising the challenge that I had put myself forward for.
Fast forward nearly a year and now it is a matter of weeks until the race and my training has been in full swing for a few months.
6 months ago I could barely complete two lengths in a swimming pool, I know find I can complete a mile when I put my mind to it.
The race itself consist of a 1.2-mile lap of the lake, then straight on to cycle 56
miles of the infamous bike course through hilly terrain in the heart of Exmoor
National Park. Finally, there is the small matter of running a half marathon
(13.1 miles), over a three-loop course on mixed terrain including tarmac, hard
pack trail and grass - all without a break.
I am raising money for Bridge2Aid - a dental charity that my company, Dentisan
has supported for many years. Bridge2Aid makes possible the continued training
of rural-based health workers who provide safe access to dental pain relief for
disadvantaged people in the Mwanza region of Tanzania, who would otherwise face a lifetime in pain with no hope of treatment.
I hope that you can spare a penny or two to support me in my case to raise a bit of money.
Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for your support.
