Story
I am absolutely delighted that Karen and I have just completed the 2022 Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara over the last 6 days. Many of you will know, that we tried in October 2021 but I had to pull out after 3 days with heat exhaustion as the temperatures in the dunes reached 56c, with Karen showing her mettle by finishing strong. For the 2022 edition the heat was mercifully cooler although many hours of running in sandstorms provided their own challenge.
The route was inspiring with many jebels (mountains) and long rocky ridges to navigate as well we endless miles of sand. Days started with wonderful sunrises and finished with incredible sunsets and star fill skies. The hardest bit for me was 60km into the long day when it went dark and we still had 26km to go!
We ran again in aid of Macmillan Cancel Support with the goal of raising £25k over 2021/22. We received tremendous support from Macmillan when Karen's Father passed away with Cancer. He was a proud Irish man, ever the entertainer and always a twinkle in the eye.
We would be very grateful to anyone who is willing to contribute (AGAIN in many cases!) as we push towards £25k.
