Story
Hi,
Over the course of 2017 I will be putting myself through over 13 physical challenges ranging from 7km-26mile obstacle courses, half marathons, the London marathon, an 8 hour overnight obstacle course race,149 mile duathlon through Scotland and an Ironman!
For those of you that know me, you will know that I love a challenge but this is unlike anything I have ever done before and I am doing it in memory of my wonderful friend and mentor Ian Perrott to raise money for Marie Curie.
I first met Ian when I began working for the Army in 2008 in Aborfield, Reading. Ian had been in the army since he was 16 years old and when he eventually retired from the Army Physical Training Corp, he took a few years away but then went back to the army working as a civilian physical training instructor.
In late 2014 Ian fell ill and was diagnosed with malignant sacromatoid mesothelioma the most aggresive cell type of cancer and sadly passed away just 6 months later on 11th June 2015.
It is really hard to describe Ian in a couple of sentences and do him justice but he was a mentor to anyone who had the pleasure of working with him. He was truly passionate about fitness and pushing yourself. If you gave him the chance to tell you a story about an adventure he had had he would have you sitting listening for hours and he was never shy of telling anyone much he loved his wife Yvonne and daughter Clare.
When I worked with Ian between the years 0f 2008-2012 I hated doing anything that involved the term endurance which he used to find very amusing. Since loosing him I have set myself endurance challenge after challenge with him always in my thoughts. Having spoken to Yvonne and others who I used to work with, we all agreed he would be in complete disbelief seeing me now and these epic challenges seemed fitting!
The Marie Curie charity provided support for Ian and his family during his very intense short illness and I would love to smash my target, so please whatever you can give would be amazing!
