Fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre
Welcome to my just giving page where I am supporting one of my best friends Craig Maxwell following the devastating news that he and his family recently received. In September 2022, at the age of 40, Craig Maxwell was diagnosed with a rare form of genetic lung cancer, EGFR+, which had also spread to his bones. It’s an inoperable, incurable stage 4 diagnosis, giving Craig, his children, Isla (11) and Zach (7) and wife, Tracey, limited time together. Whilst Craig can’t give his children the support he’d planned to with Tracey, he has decided to show them how strong and powerful people can be when they want to make a difference together. Following this devastating news, Craig has set himself a fundraising goal that he hopes will raise significant funds for the QuicDNA (cancer genomics) project - an area that could dramatically impact the diagnosis of lung cancer in Wales. This project aims to reduce the time it takes to diagnose lung cancer and improve access to better cancer treatments through the use of a new, innovative liquid biopsy technique using a simple blood test. The QuicDNA project could see Wales become the first nation in the UK to routinely use liquid biopsy for all patients suspected of having incurable lung cancer. In addition to supporting this specific Quic DNA project, Craig will be raising funds for Velindre Cancer Centre who are currently caring for him and his family. To raise awareness we are completing the London marathon in April, cycling from Cardiff to Paris in July and completing Ironman Wales in August as well as a few other events that haven’t been confirmed yet in September. Any donations would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Jonny
